Being the remarks by His Excellency, Seyi Makinde at the commissioning of the Ibadan South West Local Government Traditional Council Building (Mini Mapo Hall) on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
It’s great to be here once again this time, for the commissioning of this Mini Mapo Hall building.
Nearly two and half years ago, I had the honour of being part of the foundation laying ceremony. At that time, little did we know that a month later, the world would be facing a pandemic which would greatly affect the economies of all countries.
It is a testament to the resilience and determination of our people here at Ibadan South West Local Government Traditional Council that despite these challenges, this building was completed and is being commissioned.
Not only will this building beautify our landscape, but it will also become a part of our history here in Ibadan and Oyo State similar to the Mapo Hall.
As I said two years ago at the foundation laying ceremony of this hall, our traditional institutions are an integral part of our society. We must continue to work with them to build lasting legacies.
In the past, our political leaders would only remember traditional institutions when it is time for elections and they are looking for votes. We are standing here today as a testament to a shift in that culture. Our administration has shown respect for and upheld our traditional systems.
And I can promise you that as long as I remain the Governor of Oyo State these collaborations will continue. We will continue to draw on our traditional systems and the roles that our traditional rulers have been playing to ensure we have a cohesive society that upholds our culture.
Each time meetings are held in this hall, let us remember the spirit behind this building -a commitment to achieving our goals despite all odds.
So, it is with great pleasure that I commission the Ibadan South West Local Government Traditional Council building also known as mini Mapo Hall to the glory of God and for the benefit of the good people of Ibadan and Oyo State.
Seyi Makinde
