Newsletter No 43 | August 2022
Hello,
How have you been?
Another two weeks have gone by in politics and governance. And just like that, we are approaching the last quarter of 2022.
I started reading a new book, which speaks to the heart of a lot of the issues we are facing as a country. The book is titled, “Nigeria: Africa’s Failed Asset?” It is written by Sir Olaniwun Ajayi KJW. I believe I am going to enjoy reading this and learning something from my reading. Of course, I will be sharing what I have learned with you in the coming weeks as my upcoming vacation will give me the time I need to read and digest the contents.

In my last newsletter, I told you we were going to focus on waste management and rehabilitating feeder roads in the state under RAAMP in the coming months. I can report that we have taken lots of action on these two issues. We already put out a call for contractors who are interested in partnering with us in road construction and rehabilitation following due process. So far, we have highlighted 256 roads spanning 2,897km to be covered by this intervention. By God’s grace, work will commence in a month or two. Meanwhile, the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) has already started rehabilitating roads in Ibadan.
In solid waste management, we are also not resting on our oars. In fact, you would have noticed that there has been a lot of activity in this sector. Reports reaching me show that the new architecture is being well received. All stakeholders are embracing the new system, but we also acknowledge that enforcement is needed. For this, our ad hoc Environmental Health Officers have been recruited and are already working.
Please, do not forget your role in ensuring accountability at all times. Our “see something, say something, and the authorities will do something” mantra is not just for security but for all aspects of governance. So, if you have a road that you feel should make the list but has not been captured, let us know. Also, if the new solid waste management architecture is not working in your area, reach out to us. All our feedback platforms are available for your convenience.
I have already transmitted a letter to our State House of Assembly for our Deputy Governor, Chief Bayo Lawal, to be the Acting Governor for the duration of my vacation. I hope to get the much-needed rest so I am rejuvenated to continue the work of serving the good people of Oyo State.
Have you taken your own vacation this year?
Talk to you again soon
