Governor Seyi Makinde’s Message on Workers’ Day

Governor Seyi Makinde New Year Message 2022

Being the message by His Excellency Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, on Workers’ Day on Sunday, May 1, 2022.

Great Workers of Oyo State! I bring you, today, a message of goodwill.

Let me begin by thanking you for keeping the economic wheels of Oyo State going strong.

Whether you work in an office or ply your trade, you are the reason we celebrate.

Today is your day!

We are happy to be your partners in progress.

When we came into government almost three years ago, our plan was to make life better for everyone in Oyo State. We knew it was not going to be an easy task; we knew that sometimes our motives would be misunderstood; it was clear that we would have opposition; But we were determined to remain focused on engineering a modern Oyo State.

Today, we celebrate our successes as we see the impact of the work of our hands.

Look around you.

The smiling faces you see – These are the true faces of the workers in Oyo State. This is the future of the economic outlook of Oyo State.

Great workers of Oyo State, are you there?

The civil servants are smiling because they know that the 25th of every month is the day they get their salaries.

The pensioners are happy because they know that as the civil servants are getting their salaries, they are getting their pensions paid too.

The market men and women are happy because when workers get their salaries, they will come to the market and buy from them.

The private sector is happy because we continue to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. We have seen improvements in every sector, especially in agribusiness development.

While some choose to give farmers and traders tokens, we are investing in human capital development. In the last year, we have trained 3,300 youths in agribusiness and have begun to provide enterprise support for some of these youths. In the coming weeks, we will be rolling out a more robust support system for these young people.

Our approach to development has attracted investors and development partners. Presently, we are partnering with the World Bank, the African Development Bank, France and Netherlands on various projects in Oyo State.

And let me also mention the work of our local investors. We are celebrating businesses like Friesland Campina, Nijji Group of Companies, Psaltry International Ltd, Brent Farms Ltd, Rontol Farms and Amo Farms for their contributions in the last year towards the growth of the Oyo State economy.

We see the impact in the number of people who are choosing Oyo as the destination for their businesses. In the last year, we have seen numerous local businesses spring up in Oyo State.

As of Workers’ Day last year, the 2020 half-year National Bureau of Statistics report showed that our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) had risen by 42.23%. Today, I can report to you that through all our collective efforts, Oyo Stateโ€™s IGR growth is 62.9%.

But we are not ready to stop.

As we see the impact of all the work we have done in Oyo State so far, we are motivated to do even more.

We know that one of the reasons businesses are choosing Oyo State is because of the relative security we have been enjoying in the state. Therefore, we are not resting on our oars regarding securing our dear state.

Just recently, we beefed up the security architecture of Oyo State with 100 operational vehicles for our Amotekun Corps and we are improving their operations with 500 new recruits.

In keeping with our belief that where roads go, development follows, we are continuing with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads across all zones in Oyo State. We are already seeing the impact of the reconstruction of the 67km Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road. The 34.85km Oyo-Iseyin Road reconstruction is progressing. At the same time, the 76.7km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road construction is ongoing. While, the 58km Ido-Eruwa Road rehabilitation has also commenced.

Great Oyo Workers!

This is another year to renew our pledge to you.

We will not stop, we will not waver, we remain focused on improving the economy of Oyo State for the benefit of you, the good people of Oyo State.

God bless you all.

  1. I love your speech sir,May God continue to be with you,sir concerning OYO state workers that did conversion interview since last year, kindly do something about it sir.

  2. God bless the Governor and the government of Oyo state. Things are getting better.
As far as the ministry of education recruitment was concerned, I was made to understand by the process that despite the goodwill of the governor, some associates maybe head or members of the ministry would always do that which will tarnish the governor’s image. Although we don’t care, we know the good intention the governor has towards us all. It was painful and will always remain painful how justice is turned over sometimes, even when the result was seen by the blind in the interview hall, the less performance candidates were chosen. The same set of people who came to ask that with your performance at the interview, why were you not chosen over us.
Thanks to your exellency sir, at least, many have become employed, with their soul blessing you daily. We still look forward to seeing you recruit more people sir.

  3. What a message, I am particularly impressed with the growth in GDP.

I look forward to seeing great improvements in the Housing sector as I feel that there is a great gap which I will want to fill if given the opportunity alongside the Labour force

First ever in the history of Oyo state… Transparency in governance, I don’t partake in politics, I don’t even have voters card but with the flexible way of GSM GOVERNMENT I have been forced to get my PVC so that I will be part of the people that will reelect him. He carries people along in his governance, allows people to speak their opinions and most importantly he respects everyone irrespective of religion, tribe, nationality and language. SOMEONE SHOULD PLEASE TELL GSM THAT I LOVE HIM.

I hail our Governor for his good works but u mention paying all salaries 25th of the month , what about does that is collecting subversion there not 25th i think the last month is 48th which is 18th days in April, is there any answer to this effect.

  6. I am personally elated for your good will massages to the entire workers of Oyo state, GSM indeed you are the best governor so far in the history of Oyo state because eyes have seen your good work in the state and ears have heard your kind gesture, transparency and continuity of good works in the state. I think in the history of Oyo state this government will be the first government to recruit new workers based on merit without having any godfather, belongs to one political party, belongs to one particular state before you can be employed he did it honorably and the whole process was awesome. Also, He did what has never happened to Non academic staff of schools before in the history of the state. GSM of a truth you fill the mouth of Oyo state workers with laughter and your name will be written with gold to every wall in the state. I am now using these medium to appeal to all workers in the state to go and collect their PVC, because this will only be our instrument to advocate for SEYI LEEKAN SI. Can someone echo it with me once again that come 2023 gubernatorial election in Oyo state is SEYI LEEKAN SI NI OOOO. SEYI E DA? SEYI MI REEEEE.
