6 Years of Re-Engineering a Modern Oyo State
6 Years of Re-Engineering a Modern Oyo State
Newsletter No 121 | September 2025
On 12 September, we will officially launch the Oyo State Sub-National African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation Strategy in Ibadan. This is a historic step for us as a State — we are the first subnational government in Nigeria, and indeed Africa, to develop and roll out a strategy of this kind. It is a bold move that positions our farmers, manufacturers, and traders to take full advantage of the AfCFTA agreement and connect their goods and services with markets across Africa.
This strategy is the result of months of hard work, consultation, and collaboration with our partners. I especially want to recognise Ms Neo Theodore Thaselo, my Special Adviser on International Trade and the AfCFTA, whose dedication and expertise were instrumental in getting us to this point. This is truly another pacesetter moment for Oyo State.
Work at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport has also reached a major milestone. The upgraded runway is now complete, bringing us closer to reopening the airport. Other works are ongoing to ensure it meets the highest standards for local and international operations, but I am pleased to say that local flights will resume soon — just in time for the Olubadan coronation.
As you may know, the coronation of my father, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, will hold on 26 September 2025. I am looking forward to carrying out this assignment and honouring him in this way.
Great things are indeed happening in Oyo State and contrary to doomsayers’ predictions, we still have another 20 months of sustainable development to deliver to the people of Oyo State. Thank you, as always, for your support and for believing in the future we are building together.
Talk to you again soon,
We’re sharing behind-the-scenes content, interviews, and testimonials all month.
