Being the Speech by His Excellency Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State at the Commissioning of the 76.67 km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road now renamed Adebayo Alao-Akala Memorial Highway on Thursday, 30 May 2024.
I want to start by saying a very big thank you to His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON for joining us today for this memorable occasion as we commission this landmark project – the 76.67 km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road now renamed Adebayo Alao-Akala Memorial Highway. I want to also formally extend to you a warm welcome from the good people of Oyo State.
Where roads go, development follows. This is the mantra that has supported our continuous drive to build road infrastructure that interconnects all the zones in our dear State. Back in 2021, we started with the commissioning of the 65 km Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road, then we moved to Oyo. With the approval of the Federal Government, we completed and commissioned the 34.85 km Oyo-Iseyin Road. We realised that there were no roads connecting Ogbomoso Zone to Oke-Ogun Zone directly, so we envisioned this 76.67 km Ogbomoso-Fapote-Iseyin Road, which we are delivering to you today. At the same time, we are working on the 48 km Ido-Eruwa Road.
Our focus has always been to ensure that we spread development all around. Gone are the days when all our Internal Generated Revenue will come from only one zone. Yesterday, I spent time at Fasola in Oyo Zone. We have a big development there with the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub which hosts several large and medium scale international and national businesses. We are planning to commence something similar in Eruwa and Ijaiye this year.
We will continue to reduce our infrastructural deficit and move even more of our people from poverty to prosperity.
As we celebrate five years of Omituntun in Oyo State, our solemn pledge is to continue to do everything in our power to bring development to our people.
Once again, I want to thank His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, the Vice President of Nigeria, for coming here to celebrate with us today and all our guests from far and near who continue to identify with the progress we are making in Oyo State.
Before I yield the podium to His Excellency, let me use this opportunity to invite local and international investors to come to Oyo State. Talk to us about your plans. We are ready to support you with the needed infrastructure as we continue to create an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive.
I will now invite His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, to deliver his remarks, after which we will proceed with the commissioning of the 76.67 km Adebayo Alao-Akala Memorial Highway to the glory of God and for the benefit of the good people of Oyo State.
