Being the remarks by His Excellency Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State at the Commissioning of High Dependency Unit, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso on Monday, June 1, 2021
In our Road Map to Accelerated Development in Oyo State, 2019-2023, we made a promise to the good people of Oyo State. That promise was based on our understanding that one of the pillars that hold an economy together is accessible healthcare. You cannot be talking about development when you have an ailing population.
While we are ensuring that the primary healthcare needs of our people are met through the construction or renovation of Primary Healthcare Centres in all the 351 wards in Oyo State, we are also ensuring that our secondary health care facilities are standardised.
So, with the completion of these three floors, two of which are High Dependency Wards, we will be able to provide extensive secondary healthcare for individuals who have undergone major surgeries or who for some other reason need more intensive care.
Our administration is effectively putting behind us the days when people were scared to visit our public health facilities. We are erasing this trust deficit by addressing the healthcare needs of people.
So, as we commission these High Dependency Units at the LAUTECH Teaching hospital, I also encourage our people to take advantage of the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme to avoid high out-of-pocket payment for services here. With as little as N8,000 each year, individuals can enjoy quality healthcare in various facilities in Oyo State. And we are opening this up to those in the informal sector. Everyone can now register for Healthcare Insurance in Oyo State.
Let me also mention that we will continue the free health mission to complement our efforts. We have decided that it will now be quarterly, so we will be returning to Ogbomoso with the Free Health Mission soon. This year, about 250,000 residents of Oyo State benefited from the health mission. Our people got free cataract operations, free glasses and free dental care among other medical and surgical interventions. So, when the medical mission is announced for your zone, please take advantage of it.
We will continue to keep our promise to the good people of Oyo State not only in the healthcare sector but in all other sectors as well.
And on that note, I declare the High Dependency Unit, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho commissioned to the Glory of God and the benefit of the good people of Oyo State.
