PDP!
When I announced that I would run for a second term, I was overwhelmed by the positive feedback I received from everyone, especially you, the members of our great party the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
And coming here today…
[Pause and look into the crowd and smile]
Coming here today to witness your endorsement and my adoption as your flag-bearer in the 2023 elections, I can only say thank you.
Thank you for believing in me.
Thank you for believing in our great party.
Thank you for trusting in me.
You see trust…trust is like a building. And for every building to stand, it must have a solid foundation.
The foundation for trust is truth. It is keeping promises.
And since we took office in May 29, 2019, we have kept our promises.
We promised that we would scrap the N3,000 school fees for parents, did we not keep that promise?
We promised LAUTECH sole ownership, do we not have sole ownership today?
We promised we would have one standard Primary Healthcare Centre in each ward, have you not seen the PHCs?
We promised that we would prioritise security, did we not give you Amotekun?
We promised that we will give Oyo State a robust economy, have we not consistently paid salaries? Built markets? Built bus terminals? What about roads? Have you seen the Moniya-Ijaiye Iseyin Road? Oyo- Iseyin Road? What about the latest one we flagged off, the Ogbomoso-Fapote-Iseyin Road? Even this stadium that we are in today?
Have we not made you proud?
Yes, you gave us a chance and all we have been able to do is because you gave us a chance.
And today, you are saying you trust us to do more.
We will do even more than you expect.
As long as I remain the Governor of Oyo State, God being with us, I will continue to do all in my power to move the people of Oyo State from poverty to prosperity.
We will continue to work for you.
Let me also use this opportunity to ask every member of our great party to work towards the progress of the PDP.
2023 is our time to rescue Nigeria. When they say to you, eh…you are all the same…
Ask them to compare 8 years of APC to 3 years of PDP in Oyo State.
Ask them to compare the economic prosperity of 16 years on PDP to what we have now. Is it the same?
Tell them we are coming.
PDP is coming.
Once again, thank you to all the stakeholders here present, our friends and well-wishers and everyone who contributed in no small measure to the success of this occasion.
And of course, I must thank my lovely wife, Tamunominini and my darling children for their unfailing support throughout this journey.
Let’s do this again!
